Ruel, 16, sets the stage alight with his powerful vocals in Melbourne

He’s the 16-year-old Australian star who was praised by music legend Sir Elton John  And on Tuesday, Ruel proved exactly why he’s Australia’s hottest up-and-coming talents as he took the stage at Festival Hall in Melbourne  The talented crooner, whose full name is Ruel Vincent van Dijk, belted out some of his popular hits while strumming an electric guitar   The Younger singer looked every inch the budding superstar as he stormed the stage in a black-and-white button-up shirt   His trademark shaggy blond locks were left to hang loosely in a centre parting  The schoolboy is currently in the middle of his Australian tour, which has already seen him play shows in Brisbane and Adelaide  After wrapping up in Melbourne, he will take the stage in Sydney before ending the tour in Hobart  Despite his age, Ruel has already received praise from some of the music industry’s finest- including Khalid, Zane Lowe  Most notably, Sir Elton John offered his support for the young performer on his Beats 1 radio show last year ‘From Australia, this is a 14-year-old boy. with an amazing track,’ the living legend said  ‘We were pretty amazed … The first song Ruel ever learnt was (Sir Elton’s 1973 hit) Crocodile Rock ‘The Sydney prodigy was ‘discovered’ by Australian Grammy award winning producer M-Phazes after he heard the young talent cover James Bay’s Let It Go in 2015  Their collaboration on the Triple J cover’s segment Like A Version, that saw the pair take on Jack Garratt’s hit Weathered, has amassed more than 230,000 views on YouTube  Last year, Ruel also celebrated a career milestone when he became the youngest recipient of an ARIA Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year He is also the youngest male artist to sell out Sydney’s Opera House- a feat he has achieved twice
