Making Movie Magic With the Cast of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil | Disney

Go from the ground and
jump up in the air and sort of [SQUAWK] or whatever. It always looks cooler once
they’ve done their thing. [MUSIC PLAYING] What was the most magical
moment you had on set? Walking into that
room for the first time and seeing all of the
dark fae together. It was just so well done. Everybody looked– just
were so individual, but you could sense and
see, obviously, that they were part of the same group. I mean, the world
we inhabited was, by definition, a magical world. And the characters that
we occupied were magical. That was a wonderful thing. Probably the days that
I had Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, and Michelle
Pfeiffer in the same scene, you know. For me as a director, that is as
close to magic as you can get. Having to propose was quite
magical and intimidating. I had to do that on
my very first day. That was–
– Did you? That was quite a lot.
Yeah. What was the
one scene that you were so excited to
bring to life with movie magic and special effects? The scene that I was the
most excited about filming didn’t involve any VFX
effects or blue screen at all. And that’s– there’s a
dinner scene in the film, which is basically just like,
10 pages of script that was all the main characters, you know. It became kind of my favorite
scene to do, I think. I always love watching
the transformations from bird to man. The actual practicalities
of doing it look really embarrassing. I have to sort of go from the
ground and jump up in the air and do sort of
[SQUAWK] or whatever. It always looks cooler once
they’ve done their thing. The stages are vast. And they were all kind
of practically built, very beautiful. The meadows, you know, where
the dark fae are, the caves, all of that stuff, you know. And then around it all would
be blue or green screens. And so when I watched the movie
and seeing that, seeing all of it realized, it’s so vast. It’s a wonderful
kind of creation in terms of the world of it.
