Lady Gaga Has Heart-Wrenching Oscar Performance

>>LADY GAGA WAS ONE OF THE
PERFORMERS DURING THE OSCARS, BUT SHE USED THAT AS AN
OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK ABOUT SOMETHING THAT SHE WENT TO
HERSELF AT THE AGE OF NINETEEN: RAPE AND
SEXUAL ASSAULT. IT BECAME AN EMPOWERING MOMENT,
NOT JUST FOR LADY GAGA, BUT FOR A NUMBER OF WOMEN WHO
CAME UP ON STAGE AS RAPE SURVIVORS TO KIND OF STAND IN
SOLIDARITY WITH ONE ANOTHER. THESE ARE PEOPLE WHO HAVE GONE
THROUGH SIMILAR SITUATIONS, SIMILAR TRAGIC EVENTS, AND THEY
CAME TOGETHER, AND HONESTLY THE PERFORMANCE WAS BEAUTIFUL. UNFORTUNATELY WE CANNOT SHOW
YOU THE VIDEO, BUT I WILL EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED. LADY GAGA GAVE AN EMOTIONAL
PERFORMANCE OF HER OSCAR-NOMINATED SONG, UNTIL IT
HAPPENS TO YOU, FROM THE HUNTING GROUND, A DOCUMENTARY
ABOUT SEXUAL ASSAULT ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES. LADY GAGA APPEARED ON THE
STAGE FLANKED BY VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND WAS
INTRODUCED BY VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN, WHO URGED
VIEWERS THAT CHANGING THE CULTURE OF SEXUAL ABUSE IS
EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY. WHEN JOE BIDEN CAME UP AND
INTRODUCED LADY GAGA, HE DID NOT SPECIFICALLY FOCUS ON
FEMALE VICTIM. HE EMPHASIZED RATE THAT IMPACTS
BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, AND THAT IS AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE. IT WAS GREAT, ANNIE CLARK,
ANDREA PINO AND FABIANA DIAZ OR ALL SEXUAL ASSAULT SURVIVORS,
AND ADVOCATES FOR ENDING SEXUAL ASSAULT. THEY APPEARED ON STAGE TOGETHER,
AND THEY HAD MESSAGES ON THEIR ARMS, MAKING STATEMENTS ABOUT
WHAT THEY HAD GONE THROUGH. THEY HAD WRITTEN STATEMENT
THAT SAID THINGS LIKE, NOT ALONE, YOU ARE NOT AT
FAULT, AND WE BELIEVE.>>A LOT OF COURAGE TO STAND UP
THERE AND BE SEEN IN FRONT OF ALL THOSE PEOPLE AS SOMEONE
WHO HAS BEEN ATTACKED. IN THE WORST POSSIBLE WAY. THE MALES, FEMALES,
EVERYBODY UP THERE. IT IS KIND OF A SOMBER NOTE, AND
I AM NOT MUCH INTO MUSICAL PERFORMANCES. I’M ALWAYS LIKE, LET’S
FAST-FORWARD THROUGH THIS.>>
BUT THERE WAS A POINT TO THIS.>>
AND IT WAS VERY WELL DELIVERED. SOMETIMES LADY GAGA CAN BE
OUTRAGEOUS FOR THE SAKE OF BEING OUTRAGEOUS, AND IS ONLY
NINETY-NINE PERCENT OF THE TIME. BUT THIS ONE PERCENT OF THE
TIME, SHE HAD A GREAT MESSAGE, AND I AM GLAD SHE WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO DELIVER IT.>>I AM NOT A LADY GAGA EXPERT,
BUT CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG. I THINK AT THE BEGINNING OF HER
CAREER IT WAS NINETY-NINE PERCENT OUTRAGE, AND THEN AS SHE
GOT OLDER AND MORE MATURE, SHE REALIZED, I HAVE THIS
OPPORTUNITY TO RAISE AWARENESS ON ISSUES THAT MATTER. SHE WAS VERY AGGRESSIVE WHEN IT
CAME TO GAIN ACCEPTANCE, AND MAKING SURE THAT SHE PUSHED
FOR GAY RIGHTS, AND NOW SHE IS TALKING ABOUT RAPE AND SEXUAL
ASSAULT AND I THINK THAT IS GREAT. THERE IS A CRITICISM I
WANT TO BRING UP. I LIKE THAT SHE IS HELPING THESE
WOMEN STAND IN SOLIDARITY FOR WHAT THEY WENT THROUGH, I LIKE
THAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE
FEEL ODD TALKING ABOUT, BUT SHE HAS WORKED WITH SOMEONE LIKE R KELLY. THAT SENDS A MIXED MESSAGE, AND
FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO WERE PUT OUT THAT CRITICISM, I FEAR
YOU AND I AGREE WITH YOU. I DON’T ALWAYS LADY GAGA WILL
EVER TALK ABOUT THAT, BUT I THINK SHE SHOULD.>>PART OF THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT
THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS SO DIRTY, IT IS HARD TO WORK WITH SOMEONE
WHO DOES NOT HAVE A PROBLEM. AND I DON’T KNOW WHY THIS
INDUSTRY DEVELOPED IN A WAY THAT IT HAS, AND I’M NOT JUST TALKING
ABOUT THINGS THAT ARE IN THE NEWS. I HAVE HAD REALLY INTERESTING
INTERVIEWS OF PEOPLE IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, AND THE CULTURE
IS, IF SOMEBODY IS COMING UP, YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM, YOU
SEXUALLY ABUSE THEM, AND THAT IS PAR FOR THE COURSE. REMEMBER THAT GUY WITH THE
BACKSTREET BOYS AND N’SYNC?>>I DO REMEMBER THAT.>>IT WAS A MALE MANAGER
MOLESTING OTHER MALES. THERE IS AN ENDLESS
ARRAY OF PEOPLE. PART OF IT IS OBVIOUS, AND I’M
GOING TO BE BIASED AND PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET MAD, I
GET ANNOYED BY THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, BUT IT IS FAIRLY
RANDOM, ESPECIALLY THIS DAY AND AGE, WHO MAKES IT. NUMBER ONE BECAUSE THERE ARE A
LOT OF TALENTED SINGERS. NUMBER TWO, IT IS BECAUSE OF
THESE DAYS YOU CAN AUTOTUNE ANYONE AND THEY SOUND THE SAME. THESE DAYS IT IS THE PRODUCTION. I BELIEVE DR. DRE COULD
MAKE ME SOUND THIS. BECAUSE IT IS THE LUCK OF THE
DRAW, THE PEOPLE THAT ARE THE PRODUCERS, OR HEADS OF
THE MUSIC LABELS, ETC., HAVE ENORMOUS POWER. AND WHAT DO MEN USUALLY USE
ENORMOUS POWER FOR? ARGENTINES, UNFORTUNATELY, THEY
USE IT FOR THEIR OWN SEXUAL KICKS. THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED IN THE
MUSIC INDUSTRY, IT WAS UNREGULATED FOR SO LONG THAT
IT BECAME COMMONPLACE. IT IS WAY PAST TIME THAT IT
STOPPED BEING COMMONPLACE. I’M GLAD THEY BROUGHT THIS UP. THE PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEED TO
RELATE THEMSELVES MORE THAN ANYONE IS THE MUSIC INDUSTRY,
THE SING SONGS TO YOURSELF FIRST. CLEAN UP YOUR OWN ACT, AND THEN
WE SHOULD DO IT AS A COUNTRY. I LOVE THAT SHE BROUGHT IT TO
THE FOREFRONT, BUT I KNOW WHO’S UP FIRST, AND IT IS DEFINITELY THE GUYS IN MUSIC.

  • It's 2016 and 484 people are down voting a video that condemns sexual assault on men and women. The fight continues!

  • the victims who went on stage were women AND men. Please, let's not forget that men, mostly when they are kids, suffer this too.

  • Not to be a dick, but your comments regarding "the music industry" rubbed me the wrong way a bit. I know you probably meant the big music corporations like Sony and Warner Bros. But I would like to point out that this day and age (and maybe moreso outside of the US), the internet allows artists to self-promote, self-produce and virtually cut out the middle man entirely, whilst still getting a large following and often a spot in the charts and regular gigs. I think it's a bit unfair to throw these self-made artists under the same bus, just like it's unfair to throw all 1.6 billion Muslims under the same Wahhabi-bus.

I am in no way, shape or form a fan of Miss Gaga, but she definitely scored some points with this in my book. I'm even inclined to go watch that documentary now. So I'd say her message affected at least 1 person, even if he lives over 3000 miles away.

  • Let us hope all the people who showed up on stage were genuine, unlike the accusers of Jian Ghomeshi. And speaking of Jian … I hope the fact that the case (based on non-existent evidence) even went to trial will cure him of his support for SJW Third Wave Feminism.

  • Can't believe all the negative comments on here… As a guy, it makes me embarrassed to most of the men on here are looking at this in a negative way.

  • I suspect a lot of the voters hadn't heard the song before they voted. Probably the only song they had heard was the one from the James Bond movie.

  • While I feel this is a time to bring that nasty shit in our countries closet, our social closet. I feel in the same notion that everyone is taking every opportunity to speak on something.

  • Did you know that – The Young Turks was the name of a Political Movement by Young Ottaman Turks in the then – Ottaman Empire (Turkey) that raped and killed 2 Million Armenians in the Armenian Holocaust in 1915 ?

  • How come they don't have the rights to show these clips but they can show any news clip or one from Terminator 2?

  • I disagree because it's Hollywood our government the Catholic church the list goes on and on the elite. People who are blind are like Cenk and Ana, very intelligent people but dumb just like republicans. Of course anyone can learn to read do math, anyone can learn to do anything, especially to be politically correct. What makes a person beyond those things is the hardcore truths of the world which is what TYT lacks. See a bunch of people would love that everything about America is sane but when we realize the c Catholic churches were molesting little kids everyone is shocked but the person who always knew these thing were happening, they were labels crazy tin foiled hat wearers. You name it!

  • And to think so many wankers still think this is a NEWS channel, LMAO. suck it up, bitches. It's nothing more than a current events show run by fanboys…

  • dr. luke huh??? i wasnt aware he was ever convicted or even found liable for anything…. by the way CENK, rape is not common place. DUMBASS. and we do not have a rape epidemic. look at the damn stats before making a bullshit story.

  • A lot of people say that rape is only to females, because men want to have sex with women, but what about men raping men in prison, some studies put that number above rape for women. Women raping men is not the argument to be had since it is not a large issue.

  • Most of her songs are meant to bring up important points, Ana. Donatella is about eating disorders. Poker face: about her being bisexual and hiding it. Born this way about gay acceptance. Then the other songs are about personal experiences such as her grand fathers death in edge of glory.

  • Sexual assault on college campuses…. You mean the places that are statistically the SAFEST place on the entire planet for women. You are far less likely to be raped on an American University than in any other place in the country.

You mean the places where men are accused and sentenced based on a woman's regret? — All without any proof or the man being able to defend himself. The place where mandatory classes are forced on men where they will be told they are all rapists?

  • I think it's funny how people on basically all sides throw around the word rape. As if they know what it means to be the victim. Can't we just all agree that rape and sexual assault is something worth discussing instead of treating it like a yes or no topic.

  • Wait.  Rape is BAD?!!  I never knew that!!  Thank you Lady Gaga for enlightening me to this completely unknown thing.

  • Meh, I thought it was an overblown performance. She was kicking her legs out and all that other shit. Such a serious issue needed a low key performance.

  • There are some "comedians" who try and make jokes about it under the guise of satire or pure "comedy" but you don't see them making 9/11 jokes or Holocaust jokes or anything else of the sort. Emasculated morons.

  • She's still famous? I figured her career was over when she started using Tony Bennett to try to stay famous.

  • To Cenk and Ana no offence but you guys are not "artists" (in the traditional form) so you might not have understood Lady Gaga's outrageous choices, but she actually has had positive empowering messages- she is a purpose artist and this time she just found a way to show it clearer to the mass for the Oscars and make it more comprehendible. [There was no decoding needed.]

  • I think she managed the R Kelly situation well enough, she cancelled the music video of the song and then remade it with C Aguilera. It seems she heard the criticisms.

  • there is no rape culture. You can't tell criminals not to be criminals and think they will. Murder is a crime lets end murder culture…. oh wait

  • Since when was Lady Gaga raped? I have her interviewed many times and she never said that. Why didn't she? It would have helped many others. That disappoints me about her.

  • The big people in the music industry are part of the cabal…And it's all about social engineering, control, greed, & the one world tyrannical government, or "nwo," damn it! Let's open our eyes…If not now, When?!

  • I'd like to propose that Lady Gaga change the words slightly… I would prefer: "Don't Let it Happen to You!"
…and then on stage have the men and women dressed in fatigues and packin' side arms, tasers 'n pepper spray.
This production showcased victimhood… f*ck victimhood… if someone really tries to rape you after you've said and yelled "no!" several times, then pepper spray 'em… if that doesn't stop them, hit 'em with the taser… still coming atcha? … put a bullet in his / her f*ckin' cranium !

  • I think "Rape culture" will decrease when the over-sexualization of women and men in television and music is brought down or ceases and stops feeding the idea that women and men are objects only used for gratification of self-indulgence.

  • It's only in Pop music that it occurs. Not in classical music where you have to have actual talent, not technical gimmickry.

  • "Not just for Lady Gaga, but for a number of women who came up on stage as rape survivors" That's funny, because watching it back, there's a pretty decent amount of men in there too. But I guess when it comes to describing the performance, it only matters when it happens to women, right? (drowning in sarcasm)

  • One of the women in the documentary committed suicide because nothing was done when she reported her rape. Those of you saying the documentary is fake, you really think this woman killed herself for reasons other than rape? Just wow.

  • Do your research guys. She dropped R. Kelly and re-released the song substituting his parts with Christina Aguilera.

  • But Anna you cannot say Lady Gaga shouldn't make music with R.Kelly because he's a rapist, firstly R.Kelly wasn't found guilty in court and secondly they're making music which will put money in her pocket so why will she decide against making music with R.Kelly?

  • you don't know you don't know you don't know what you idiots what don't you know whining sissy Mama's girls pansies I don't know what other word to throw out for you you don't know until it happens to you will burn you down bring that shit you don't know

  • i just can´t with her crap, she release a song called Do What U Want, showing her ass and now she´s the poor litlle victim…marketing dosen´t knows limits.

  • I've been victim for 5 times, and for the first time of my life this song gave me understanding, breath and hope for another society. Who hasn't been victim CAN NOT judge what it is to live with it. Is it important that the song isn't "great"? How many horrible songs do we hear each day? Here is a song that gives hope and understanding to the victims, and that's the most beautiful thing someone can do for them.

  • Lady Gaga dumped R.Kelly Africa off the song and replaced and him with Christina Aguilera do your research dumbfucks

  • To everyone that is saying they don't understand why there are people that dislike this video- it is because they are judging people on people they've worked with that are horrible.

Hindsight is 20/20- it is hard to say that we know every person knows everything that was happening. They could have only know about small things/nothing at all/ or that you just people are handy/ etc.

Not saying that everyone did that for that reason- but I don't think they were disliking because they 'like' sexual assault.

  • There's a reason why she released the second (or third, depending on how you count) version of Do What U Want with Christina Aguilera because of R. Kelly's predatory nature and that she didn't release the music video for it.

  • Haha first of all there were women aswell as men survives on that stage and secondly Lady Gaga didn’t release the music video to her song with R Kelly and I think she even removed it from Spotify (although I’m not sure if that’s true) and rereleased it with Xtina.
