Gulf Guardian Award 2019: Gulf TREE

Filling a critical need for stakeholders Gulfwide. Gulf TREE is an online climate resiliency
resource featuring over 100 tools on topics like identifying vulnerabilities, land use
and infrastructure, community planning, and habitat management and restoration. The website is geared toward natural resource
managers, community planners, and others incorporating resilience into their projects. The easy-to-use platform guides users through
the tool selection process, making recommendations on what’s best suited for their needs. Gulf TREE’s project team included federal,
state, local, and non-profit organizations, with every Gulf state being represented. More than 150 organizations provided critical
guidance and feedback to create the “living resource” of resiliency tools and case studies. The partner organizations wanted to help stakeholders
gain knowledge, skills, and confidence to identify issues, select appropriate tools,
and apply those tools to improve coastal resilience. Using Gulf TREE, stakeholders can get a better
understanding of resilience work across the region, plus strengthen communication and
interaction between scientists, resource managers, and local governments. Gulf TREE has been recognized as a valuable
and important resource for implementing resilience into projects along the Gulf. Congratulations to Gulf TREE, the second place
Gulf Guardian award winner in the partnerships category.
