Grammy, Tony Winner Stars In Season 2 Of ‘Legends’

SANDRA: CONNECT THE CRIMINAL ENTERPRISES WE ARE TARGETING ARE PRIMARILY MADE UP OF THE RUSSIAN SPEAKING INDIVIDUALS. EXCUSE ME, AGENT– ITS BALLARD, MA’AM. SANDRA: THAT IS ACTOR STEVE KAZEE IN THE HIT TV SHOW “LEGENDS” ON TNT AND THE GRAMMY AND TONY AWARD WINNER STARRING IN SEASON NUMBER TWO AND HE IS HERE TO TALK ABOUT WHAT WE WILL SEE ON THE SHOW AND YOU LOOK A BIT DIFFERENT. ALWAYS WHEN I SEE THOSE CLIPS HIM A BIT SHOCKED AND I FORGET WHAT I LOOK LIKE CLEAN-SHAVEN. SANDRA: YOU PLAY AN FBI AGENT AND THE SHOW IS SORT OF REIMAGINED FOR SEASON TWO. THE SHOW IS A DEFINITE REIMAGINING OF THE ORIGINAL SERIES. THE ORIGINAL SERIES TOOK PLACE MORE IN AN EPISODIC STYLE EPISODE TO EPISODE WHERE THE SEASON WE ARE DOING NOW IS MUCH MORE– IT’S DARKER AND THEY REALLY WENT BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD AND CREATED A WHOLE NEW THING. SANDRA: YOU ARE A BUSY GUY. YOU ARE FILMING IN PRAGUE, AND JOINING THE CASH OF NASHVILLE WHICH IS PREDOMINANTLY DONE IN NASHVILLE, SO YOU’RE KIND OF ALL OVER THE PLACE. RACKING UP THE FREQUENT FLYER MILES FOR SURE. FOUR MONTHS IN PRAGUE, AND BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN HERE IN NASHVILLE AND HERE IS HOME, LOS ANGELES. I GO BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN HEREIN LOS ANGELES QUITE A BIT. SANDRA: I’M FASCINATED BY YOUR LIFE STORY AND READING A BIT ABOUT YOU FOUND OUT THAT YOU GREW UP IN KENTUCKY, ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS IN A TRAILER. YES. SANDRA: IT MUST HAVE BEEN A WHOLE HARDSCRABBLE LIFE. IT WAS A HARD KNOCK LIFE, MY FAMILY WAS VERY POOR AND FOUGHT HARD FOR EVERYTHING WE HAD. SOME OF MY EARLIEST MEMORIES ARE WAITING IN LINE FOR GOVERNMENT HAND OUT FOOD. AS THE SORT OF AREA I GREW UP IN, AND ECONOMICALLY HARD-HIT AREA AND EVEN WORSE TODAY, SADLY. I FEEL VERY LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO FIND SOMETHING I LOVE SO MUCH TO DO THE HAS TAKEN ME TO SOME A WONDERFUL PLACES BECAUSE THERE’S NOT A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY IN PLACES LIKE WHERE I COME FROM, UNFORTUNATELY. SANDRA: YOU FLUNKED OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE? YEAH, I DID. SANDRA: TONY AWARD WOMEN– WINNER, GRAMMY AWARD WINNER. HOW DO YOU GO FROM THAT TO THIS? THAT’S A BIG SHOUT OUT TO COMMUNITY COLLEGE, THANKS FOR FLUNKING OUT. I WAS JUST BORED AND NEVER REALLY LIKED SCHOOL THAT MUCH AND NEVER FELT IT WAS CATERED TOWARDS SOMEONE OF MY CRATED MINDSET, TOO MUCH BOOKS AND NOT ENOUGH ACTION. I JUST DIDN’T GO TO CLASS, WHICH IS HOW I FLUNKED OUT, BUT IN A ROUNDABOUT WAY I ENDED UP GETTING INVOLVED IN CHOIR AND THEATER ONCE I GOT TO A STATE SCHOOL. THERE I MET A WONDERFUL MAN NAMED TRAVIS LOCKHART AND HE REALLY CHANGE MY LIFE FOR THE BETTER IN SONY DIFFERENT WAYS AND PUT ME ON A PATH TO WHERE I HAVE GOTTEN TODAY, BUT IT’S BEEN A LOT OF LUCK AT THE END OF THE DAY. IT’S A MATTER OF TAKING THIS ROAD AT A CERTAIN TIME IN THIS ROAD NOT AT A CERTAIN TIME AND IF YOU ARE LUCKY YOU END UP SITTING IN A CHAIR TALKING TO YOU. SANDRA: AND YOUR LIFE EXPERIENCES, DO YOU BRING THOSE TO THE ROLE YOU PLAY ON “LEGENDS”? IS HARD, I’M NOT THE KIND OF ACTOR WHO WILL DIG, DIG, DIG. I DON’T HAVE TO BE MISERABLE TO PLAY MISERABLE. I KNOW WHAT MISERABLE FEELS LIKE AND I WILL DEFINITELY PULL FROM MEMORIES. IF I NEED TO EXPERIENCE LOSS I THINK ABOUT MY MOTHER, LOSING MY MOTHER I FIND IT HARD AS AN ACTOR TO PLAY SOMETHING IF YOU HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED IT AND REALLY LIKE THAT WHAT THAT IS LIKE. PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER HAD A DRINK AT HAVE TO PLAY DRUNK, THEY AUTOMATICALLY GO WAY OVERBOARD, BUT IF YOU HAVE HAD TOO MUCH TO DRINK, YOU ARE LITTLE RESERVED AND IT’S THAT EXPERIENCE AND TRY TO BE MORE PRESENT IN HOW I AM FEELING. SANDRA: CONGRATULATIONS. THANK YOU. SANDRA: ACTOR STEVE KAZEE AND
