Nanotechnology is a multidisciplinary field and its use in the area of health sciences has led to innovative applications in diagnosis and treatment of living beings, as well as in agricultural process. The goal of the programme is twofold. Firstly, to provide participants with basic knowledge concerning the applications of nanotechnology in health sciences including medicine, biology, veterinary and agriculture. Secondly, to explore if the use of nanotechnology opens new perspectives in the field of health sciences highlighting the advantages and the challenges of nanomedicine. The present programme provides a detailed description concerning the types of nanotools used in health sciences. It gives a thorough overview of nanoparticles current applications in diagnosis, therapy and theranostics. Moreover, it describes the potential of applying nanotechnology in veterinary medicine regarding animal health, animal breeding and animal food safety. Finally, it summarizes the applications of nanoparticles to the agro-food section, food packaging and supply chain. Moreover, relevant environmental, health and toxicological issues are highlighted.
